The Yellow Mini Saga

Writer's picture: DeVilleDeVille

A new tale begins:

“Simon Short was a tall man. He had not always been tall but he had been caught off guard by one of those growth spurts that sometimes befall young lads in their teenage years. After that he had never looked back, or up, though he had often looked down. He was not at all snobbish or superior but necessarily surveyed his friends and colleagues from above. Needless to say, they necessarily looked up to him. He seemed honest, affable, and thoroughly likeable. And indeed he was.”

“You worked with him, I gather?”

“ Yes, I did. Back in the day.”

I thought for a moment, then decided not to ask which day that was.

“So what happened to him? Tell me about the injustice you hinted at earlier.”

DeVille proceeded:

“Well, let me start by telling you about Martin Day: Martin Day was caught red-handed in the middle of a burglary in a video-copying shop.”

Whether he was trying to steal the copying machines or the videos themselves, I do not know. DeVille did not say. But he did say this had occurred back in the early 1980’s.

“Day was initially discovered by the Night-watchman, who quickly summoned the police. Unknown to the responding officers, Day was armed and one officer was shot, though - thank God -  it was not fatal.”
